Its remarkable accomplishment also enabled itself to stand as one of the two universities where all departments of four major areas of basic science - biological sciences, mathematics, physics, and chemistry - have been selected after going through the mid-term evaluation and review conducted in 2015. The total amount of financial aid that the College of Science is going to collect from 2016 to 2019 reaches approximately 12.7 billion KRW (11 million USD). The Brain Korea 21 PLUS, or BK21 PLUS in short, which is one of the largest and longstanding government-led research grant program, was initiated in 1999 with an aim to support Korean higher education and research institutions foster future generation in academia. In other words, its primary goal is to develop competitive graduate programs by financially supporting them with government resources where outstanding scholastic and research outcomes are expected to be created; and therefore produce global leading institutions with quality research capability and learning environment. - University of Edinburgh Visited NSC to Discuss Collaboration in Science and Engineering
- Dr. Stephen Warrington, director of teaching at the College of Science and Engineering of the University of Edinburgh, paid a visit to the Natural Sciences Campus in order to discuss the areas where two prestigious and one of the oldest institutions at each end of global time zone can work together, specifically in the fields of natural sciences and engineering. It was a return visit for the College of Science’s travel to the UoE in October last year when the College proposed a joint internship program and to explore further possibilities of scholastic cooperation. Dean KWON Young-Uk of the College of Science, Dean SONG Sungjin of the College of Engineering, Dean JEON Byeungwoo of the College of Information and Communication Engineering who were glad to be a part of the meeting talked with Dr. Warrington for an hour and a half, and agreed to establish a closer partnership by establishing a memorandum of understanding, student exchange, internship and double degree program. Additionally, they shared the idea that it is crucial part to create bilateral academic engagement which is typically be spurred by exchanging academic and professional profile with one another, and therefore both will make reasonable efforts to create valuable partnership in the forthcoming time. Prior to the meeting with three Deans, Dr. Warrington also had a chance to see two chemistry students who will be joining UoE chemistry laboratory this summer as a visiting undergraduate researcher, telling about what they are expected to prepare for successful experience in Scotland. The UoE summer internship program started being offered to science students as a part of the SCI-WORLD, study and research abroad program initiated by the College of Science, from 2016 summer, and two students are going to engage in research activities at Edinburgh for two months.
