This course provies the history, background, and concept of Evidence-based practice(EBP). Throught this course students will experience the process of implementing evidence-based practice in an agency through individual and small group activities focused on questions and problems relevant to their work. That is, students will learn how to collect, interpret, and integrate valid, important and applicable client-reported, clinician-observed, and research-derived evidence, and how to apply the best available evidence, moderated by client circumstances and preferences to improve the quality of clinical judgments and facilitate cost-effective care. Current barriers to, promoters of, and ddebates about evidence based practice are discussed and highlihgted with case examples in articles from academic journals.

For the sustainable society, the two sectors should have a good Nonprofit-Corporate Partnership under the mega trend, globalzation. This course will deal with the key concepts and practice of Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR), Corporate Community Investment(CCI), Social Enterprise(SE), and Voucher system in social welfare. To accomplish, students reflect on their experiences and gain new knowledge and skills through the problem-based learning project.

This course will engage students in the concepts and applied practice of policy analysis and evaluation in social welfare. Students will develop skills for systematic analysis and participation in policy analysis and evaluation. The course is structured around answering two generic policy questions. Given an identified problem, what policy should be selected? And given a particular policy, how do we know if it is working? Throughout we will pay special attention to the ways in which interests are represented or excluded in the policy process and the implications for the distribution of resources and social justice.
SWF5058 Advanced Study on Assets and Welfare 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-4 - No
This module introduces asset poverty and asset-based policy for disadvantaged populations. In particular, this module explains definition of assets and asset poverty. In addition, this module introduces institutional saving theory as a theoretical background of asset-based policy. In practice, asset-based policy was first initiated in the U.S. but not expanded to many countries in EU, Asia, Africa, and South America. This class will show the expansion of asset-based policies throughout the world and explicate the applications and evidence of the policies. Empirically, asset-based policies have been supported by positive impacts of asset holding on children, the poor, and families. This module will introduce the positive impacts of asset ownership on a variety of populations. To help understand characteristics of asset-based policy, this class also compares asset-based policy and income maintenance policy. As outcomes of this module, students will have knowledge of asset-based policy and they can apply the theory and evidence into students' special areas and develop asset-based policies for a target group such as children, the disabled, older adults, and so on.
