The government has decided to intensively foster five major consumer goods, including agro-fisheries and food, cosmetics as promising new export items.
It aims to achieve exports of the five major consumer goods by $35 billion by 2022, provide trade insurance worth 8 trillion won to export promising consumer goods companies this year, and inject 200 billion won into R&D.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Wednesday finalized a plan to boost exports of consumer goods at the 17th economic revitalization meeting chaired by the prime minister for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki.
It also supports entering global distribution networks that can enhance South Korea's image as a consumer goods brand.
It is also going to ease regulations at home and abroad. The government plans to set up a "foreign certification support desk" at the Korea International Trade Association during the second half of the year and receive and manage a package of non-tariff barriers by local companies.
In the case of major countries such as China and New South China, the government and the private sector will introduce a "participatory" system that will verify local authentication and regulatory information together and give incentives such as knowledge mileage system.
