This course is designed to guide graduate students to learn patent statistics and bibliometric analysis techniques for research on innovation management and policy. In the first half of the course, patent statistics and bibliometric analysis techniques for research on innovation will be introduced. In the last half of the course, students will be required to review preapproved research papers that employed patent statistics and bibliometric analysis as the main research methods.

In this course, students will learn the basic statistical theories necessary for studying management of technology (MOT). This course examines in detail the various statistical analysis methods required for graduation reports (master degree) and dissertations (Ph.D.). In particular, this course avoids the extremes of explaining only the academic content of statistics or how to use a statistical package program and learns the essential content for statistical analysis that is useful for writing reports/papers.

- The excellent research results of the public institutions (universities and government-funded research institute) have been patented a lot and overall research outcome is excellent but it is a reality that many excellent intellectual properties(patented technologies) are not connected to technology-based business and discarded. The challenge is to enable the commercialization of patented technologies, and learning of technology commercialization is an important core process in order to develop the patents into technology-based business. - This course will learn the theory and practical methods of how to commercialize patented technologies to effectively commercialize. - Detail contents of learning include the concept of technology commercialization, technology commercialization system, trading of patented technologies, patented technology transfer commercialization, open innovation and technology commercialization, technology marketing and technology valuation, technology finance, technology-based business evaluation, development of new products & service, the theory of technology acceptance cycle and death valley, and how to overcome it - Empirical analysis of successful and unsuccessful business cases of technology commercialization to raise the factors of success of technology commercialization and to acquire practical know-how of technical commercialization in representative of technology commercializing companies.
