Professor Gokce Basbug's paper, "Job Search and Employment Success: A Quantitative Review and Future Research Agenda," has just been accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Psychology.
In this paper, Prof. Basbug and his collaborators conducted a meta-analysis of the job-search literature to test relationships between job-search self-regulation, job-search behavior, and employment success outcomes. They also quantitatively review key antecedents (i.e., personality, attitudinal factors, and contextual variables) of job-search self-regulation, job-search behavior, and employment success. Their meta-analysis included 356 studies (1978-2019) resulting in 400 independent samples (N = 184,897). Findings from their meta-analyses support the role of job-search intensity in predicting quantitative employment success outcomes and identify job-search self-regulation and job-search quality as promising constructs for future research, as these predicted both quantitative employment success outcomes and employment quality.
The Journal of Applied Psychology is considered to be one of the top-tier academic journals in the discipline of Management.
Dr. Gokce Basbug joined SKK GSB in 2017. He completed his Ph.D. at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research focuses on job search, social networks, organizational hiring, and environmental, safety, and health management in organizations.
