- [What's On] Internship on Summer Vacation! - Nikki, FMBA'21
- Interview with Nikki about Summer Internship Internships are very popular with students who need to gain valuable work or research experience. An intern can work part-time or full time at a company for a specified period. Today, SKK GSB PR committee was very delighted to invite Nikki to share her experience in Korea and obtain life lesson including how to find a summer internship in Korea. We will find out how the internship benefits her. Nikki: Hi, my name is Nikki from India. I have been living in Korea since 2019. Before joining SKK GSB, I was working as a Business Development Manager at a startup in India. While working, I realized that I needed a more specific set of skills like Management, Negotiation and Digital Marketing to attain a well-established and stable position in my career. Since my academic background was Physics, switching into an entirely different field like a Full-time MBA was a considerable investment for me in terms of time and money. We heard that you received a great internship through Hire diversity. What benefit will the internship bring to you and how it affect your career plan? Nikki: Yes, I found the internship job description. at Hire diversity and I discussed with Mr. Sim about job description because luckily that profile was matching with my CV. He helped me a lot in finalizing the working contract and in obtaining immigration permission. Now, I am handling the Marketing area for the Indian community in Korea. Prof. Eric’s Marketing simulation helped me a lot in understanding the working process in the Marketing department. Currently, I am handling the Marketing through Facebook, Google Ads, Instagram Ads, and YouTube Ads. I create promotional Ads on these channels. The internship helps me to gain valuable work experience, develop a network with professionals, refine my skills, and in addition, receive financial compensation. Through this internship, I got an opportunity to travel locally to different places in Korea like Suwon, Gimhae, every weekend. I strongly feel that having hands-on experience will positively affect my career after MBA graduation. What did you learn from SKK GSB? What do you want to do after graduation? Nikki: SKK GSB turns out to be a magical platform for me. I am studying with students from11 different nationalities for group projects and students who have long experience in big MNC’s. I learned time management skills, as we must finish assignments and group projects within tight deadlines. Apart from that, negotiations, communications, and active participation skills improved my personality a lot. In terms of career guidelines, the SKK GSB program is very well defined and helps you to gain confidence before entering working life in a company. Prof. Raunaq and others are always available to listen and guide us through every confusing phase. After graduating from SKK GSB, I want to work on combining the profile of Data Analytics and Digital Marketing. Together with the wonderful experience in Korea, it also helps me to develop my long-term Career plan in the U.S.A or Australia. I believe I would acquire most of the required skills of my dream job before graduating, as the SKK GSB course work is highly oriented towards the latest Job requirements. - MBAs rebound as prospective students flee worsening economy - Financial Times
- Demand for places at business school has rebounded, as prospective students flee a labour market battered by the coronavirus. ... Data gathered by the Financial Times from 13 of the top 20 schools on its ranking list found that all had attracted more applications for the MBA classes starting later this year than for the same period in 2019. The jump in MBA applications also ended four years of declining appetite among the top business schools that responded in the US, by far the largest MBA market. Insead has had the biggest jump this year among the global top 10 on the FT rankings, with a 57 per cent rise in applications on 2019 levels for the coming academic year. Iese Business School reported a 12 per cent rise year on year and a record number of applications for the Barcelona-based institution. ... - Fall 2020 Application: FMBA Student Testimonials
- Fall 2020 Application FMBA Student Testimonials by Whitley Pannel, FMBA+JD’23 I first learned about SungKyunKwan University SKK GSB from Mark Need, a business and law professor at Indiana University. Professor Need is the advisor and liaison between the two schools. He held a few meetings explaining the program, stayed in communication with students who expressed interest in the program, and encouraged us to apply during our spring semester. The application took a few hours to complete. I had to provide information about myself and my educational background. I had to send a few documents from my undergraduate university and law school. I also had to answer a few questions about why I wanted to attend SKK GSB and what I wanted to get out of my experience in the program. A few weeks after completing the application, I was invited for a video interview with a faculty member. Although nervous in the beginning, the interview went smoothly. I had to answer a series of questions and I also had an opportunity to ask questions about classes, the academic schedule, and life in Korea. I did not experience any major problems when applying from the United States. I stayed in constant communication with the school throughout the entire application process and also after I was admitted into SKK GSB. Despite the time difference, the admissions office always answered my questions and emails in a timely manner. Also, I didn’t experience any issues with sending documents from my undergrad university and my law school. I truly encourage all students from different countries to apply to SKK GSB. You can learn more about the program and application process on our website. You can also feel free to reach out to the admissions office and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

- "What is SAP?" - Nitesh, FMBA'21
- What is SAP? SAP Plan Interview with Nitesh, FMBA'21 The SKK GSB Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program lasts for 18 months and it is taught all in English. The professors have PhD’s from MIT, University of Chicago, Columbia University, Indiana University, University of California, and other world-renowned schools. At the same time, students can apply for a dual degree program. The current dual degree programs are Indiana Kelley - SKK GSB MBA, SKK GSB MBA + IU MS, SKK GSB MBA + EDHEC Business School MS. More than anything, students can participate in study aboard and exchange programs at other prestigious schools, such as MIT, Indiana University, University of California, CEIBS, HKUST, SMU, Dartmouth University, IE Business School, WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management etc. Now let’s welcome Nitesh from the FMBA class of 2021 to share with us his MBA journey and SAP plan. Q. Hi Nitesh, we know that you have years of work experience, would you mind introducing yourself to us? Please explain how the MBA program will benefit your career? Nitesh: My name is Nitesh Kotangle and I am from India. I started my career in the IT services industry, after completing my Engineering degree in Electronics and Communication. I have a total of 5.5 years of experience working with a large MNC as a Technical Consultant. With more than five years of experience as a Consultant, I have acquired strong technical capabilities and an understanding of this domain. However, I have often wondered about the rationale behind some major business decisions and their impact on business. I want to get into the business side of the industry where in the future I could also possibly have an influence to make major decisions. However, without a strong business understanding, driving effective business decisions will be impossible. Our structured global business program has helped me to improve my understanding of business concepts and helped me to comprehend the impact of any decision on overall business. Learning from some of our renowned faculty members and diverse peer group has shown me new perspectives, develop techniques, and skills, understand global business trends and this enables me to experience a new culture. I hope I will be able to utilize these skills and knowledge effectively soon. Q. We have heard that you had picked a study abroad program. Which school is your first choice? Nitesh: Yes, I only applied to WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, Germany. Q. Why did you choose the study abroad program and why do you want to study abroad in WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, Germany? Nitesh: I like being here in Korea as I am well acquainted with the city now and have good friends in Korea. As I mentioned, I had previous work experience as a Technical consultant and I spent the last 3 years working for a big German company so I thought it might help me to start my career there soon in domains I am interested in. The decision was more from a job perspective. I also looked into the details of the school –it’s the top-ranked school in Germany and Europe. Learning under such a competitive environment always boosts your morale and motivates you to perform your best. The SKK GSB SAP program has given me an opportunity to study abroad so I thought I should make better use of this opportunity and continue my learning path. Q. What are you willing to do after you graduate from SKK GSB? Nitesh: I intend to build my career in Consulting, Strategy, or in the Product Management domain. These are some fields which interest me, and I think I will be able to do much better in these business areas. I would love to work in a competitive industry where I can learn this detail from scratch, and which will help me tailor my career path to new heights. - "Special Thanks to SKK GSB" - Hélène Guo
- "Special Thanks to SKK GSB" "Korean citizens are very respectful to the sanitary instructions and all were handled very efficiently." Hélène Guo, MMS'21 I am Hélène Guo, and I am an Master in Management Studies student from EDHEC Business School, Paris, France. Studying one semester at SungKyunKwan University(SKKU) SKK GSB is part of our academic program, and all my classmates and I were really happy to have the opportunity. Unfortunately, two months after semester started, COVID-19 outbreak and it became a global pandemic and of course reached South Korea soon after. SKKU and SKK GSB didn’t waste time regarding the situation: we received an email from the administration saying that the university was closing and that courses would be conducted online. The transition to online courses was very quick and efficient. The university set up the necessary equipment within a week and we were able to resume studying remotely without any trouble. As the class representative, I was able to see how the administration strove to support us. I can tell that the university has done its very best to maintain the quality of the courses, which have been conducted well since the professors were trained and thus are very familiar with the software. Though we’re all grateful for their efforts, we remain sad that we weren't able to meet all of them. I still follow the online class. I personally would like to go back to offline. SKK GSB has taken considerable precautions: it gave each student a kit containing a hand sanitizer and a disinfectant, among other things. Every time a student goes to school, they need to wear a mask, fill out a form of conditions, and have their body temperature checked at the entrance. Moreover, as foreign students don't have access to the Korean mask purchasing system, public authorities (through SKK GSB) have helped us by delivering masks to each foreign student. Such efforts made us feel well taken care of. Although the situation is getting better and restaurants, cafés, and supermarkets remain open, we are continuing to be very careful. South Korea is handling the COVID-19 very well. To me, it appears to be due to two factors. First, I noticed that Korean citizens are very respectful to the sanitary instructions. Second, the Korean Government reacted immediately and conducted many prevention campaigns(flyers, information panels indicating the precautions we should take, etc.). Hand sanitizers are available in public transportation and restaurants. Also, mass test and availability of facial mask, temperature checking in public place, and daily alerts, updates were all handled very efficiently. - 9th PMBA Student Council Election, ONLINE
- 9th PMBA Student Council Election, ONLINE (Ji Seok Shin, the President of 9th PMBA, introduced organization chart at SKK GSB, Seoul, South Korea on 21st, April, 2020. Photograph: SKK GSB) SKK GSB Professional MBA students elected the student council through the Zoom application for the first time at SKK GSB. Ji Seok, Shin, the new president of PMBA, tells about the advancement of culture and technology after COVID-19. Q. I would like to ask how the teleconference election was planned and progressed. - Ji Seok, Shin, PMBA'22: As Covid-19 has been a global pandemic, so I conducted an online election with the 8th Student Council. The election was all conducted online via mobile. While online classes and meetings are being activated after the COVID-19 outbreak, it is still not quite sure to do online election that none of us have been experienced. However, I was impressed with the advancement of video communication technology that works like face-to-face and ended with a high participation rate. Q What are the advantage or inconveniences of the online election? -Shin: Students already got used to the online class through this semester so it was not confusing to select the student council. In particular, I created the online application for election and shared the link through social media so students were able to join. I believe the mobile is much accessible rather than PC so the rate of participation was increased. The advantage of online session is accessibility and efficiency. Q How did two-way communication work? -Shin: Online communication also had a limitation. When I presented online, I sometimes have a chit chat to break the silence and draw the audience's attention, but I cannot create an interactive atmosphere due to the awkwardness of the online session. In addition, it is hard to catch the attention because live streaming cannot work at some point so I lost the expressions and reactions of the audiences. Q Are you willing to use video applications for future student council? -Shin: Online classes are somewhat lacking in terms of interactive communication. Whether online or offline or even hybrid, it is true that classmates who participate in classes at home have fewer questions and less tension comparing to those who are in the classroom. However, I believe the gap between them will soon get narrower as the culture is changing and technology is advancing. I and other PMBA students are exploring to be a new leader and it's definitely optimistic to find a new way. In the future, I would like to actively utilize video applications for student meetings and classmates' opinions garnering. Ji Seok Shin, PMBA Class of 2022

- Kudos Professor Gokce Basbug
- Professor Gokce Basbug's paper, "Job Search and Employment Success: A Quantitative Review and Future Research Agenda," has just been accepted for publication in the Journal of Applied Psychology. In this paper, Prof. Basbug and his collaborators conducted a meta-analysis of the job-search literature to test relationships between job-search self-regulation, job-search behavior, and employment success outcomes. They also quantitatively review key antecedents (i.e., personality, attitudinal factors, and contextual variables) of job-search self-regulation, job-search behavior, and employment success. Their meta-analysis included 356 studies (1978-2019) resulting in 400 independent samples (N = 184,897). Findings from their meta-analyses support the role of job-search intensity in predicting quantitative employment success outcomes and identify job-search self-regulation and job-search quality as promising constructs for future research, as these predicted both quantitative employment success outcomes and employment quality. The Journal of Applied Psychology is considered to be one of the top-tier academic journals in the discipline of Management. Dr. Gokce Basbug joined SKK GSB in 2017. He completed his Ph.D. at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His research focuses on job search, social networks, organizational hiring, and environmental, safety, and health management in organizations. Big congratulations, and many thanks to Professor Gokce Basbug for his continued contribution to SKK GSB!
